Fall48 is an annual event run through the Film and Television Studies program within the School of Journalism and Mass Media at the University of Idaho.

Fall48 is a film challenge open to all high school students, current University of Idaho students, UI alumni, and local filmmakers in the Pacific Northwest. Teams are given 48 hours to produce an entire short film from start to finish: they write, pre-produce, shoot, and edit their original content within the assigned 48-hour window.

There’s a catch though…

Each team is assigned four previously undisclosed elements that must be incorporated into their film.

Requirements for the 2022 Fall 48 competition were:

  • Short must include a character named Rory who is a super-fan of something.
  • The line “You won’t believe where that smell is coming from” must be included.
  • And spare change must be used as a prop.

When you watch this short, see if you can find these required elements.

Levi Teare’s BEAT DOWN was the Fall 48 2022 winner of Best Action/Adventure category.

NOTE: 48-hours were allocated but BEAT DOWN was produced in only 24 hours — and was the first entry.

Self-imposed limitations force creativity — and communicate a unique style.

Fade to black,
